I created “Two Generations – One Sky” to highlight the striking contrast between aviation’s past and present. This image was photographed at an air show where both vintage warbirds and modern military aircraft were flying demonstrations. I wanted to capture a moment that clearly showed how far aviation has progressed while acknowledging the legacy that shaped today’s technology and training.

For this photograph, I positioned myself near the flight line as a World War II–era SNJ trainer made a low, banking pass behind the Blue Angel Super Hornet that was parked on the tarmac. I used depth of field to isolate the SNJ in sharp detail, while allowing the Super Hornet to frame and provide contrast. The prop blur, the angle of the pass, and the compressed perspective all contribute to the story this image tells.

What interests me most about this scene is the relationship between the two aircraft. The SNJ represents an era when aviation training depended heavily on tactile skill, basic instrumentation, and manual precision. In contrast, the Super Hornet in the foreground symbolizes advanced avionics, complex systems, and the modern demands placed on military pilots. Although they belong to different eras, they share the same sky, the same purpose, and the same lineage of training and service.
