On Prince Edward Island—celebrated across Canada as Food Island for its rich agricultural heritage—a lone tractor stands beneath the sweeping Milky Way, its dark silhouette rooted firmly against the vast night sky. Near the GEBIS Monastery, where monks cultivate the land through organic, sustainable farming as both livelihood and spiritual practice, the rhythms of agriculture shape daily life. During the 2023 fall harvest, as Tea and a monk‑farmer named Eli worked late into the night gathering organic soybeans, the hum of the farm machinery merged with the stillness of the fields. PEI’s identity as Food Island was tangible in that moment: the land, the harvest, the tractor, and the monastery’s dedication to mindful stewardship all converged into a single scene.
